    • "In 1434 John Sapcote left it [Gunthorpe manor] by will to feoffees, who were to grant it to his wife Joan for life with remainder to his son John in tail. The will was proved in the spring of 1434. The younger John had two sons living in 1434, (fn. 300) but in 1463 it was in the possession of Eleanor, widow of Sir William Sturmy, and Joan, wife of Richard Carlile, who granted it to Richard Sapcote of March (co. Camb.). (fn. 301) The latter died seised of Gunthorpe in 1498 and was succeeded by his cousin, Sir John Sapcote, son of Sir Richard Sapcote of Elton (co. Hunts) and brother of Sir Thomas Sapcote of Burley."
